The pilgrimages to the Shrine have recently begun at the same time that summer came in. An important and new service was launched on June 16 with the shuttle service which will facilitate the transportation of the pilgrims who are staying in the local hotels and motels. The Shrine team is also happy to say that Marc Cardinal Ouellet, archbishop emeritus of Quebec, prefect of the Congregation of Bishops, will preside at the Mass on the Feast of Ste Anne, July 26. This Mass will conclude the novena (17-25 July). The preachers are Archbishop Valery Vienneau of Moncton, NB, and Fr. Ray Earle, of the Archdiocese of St Johns, NL.

 

The Shuttle Service, Something New

During the summer pilgrimage season, that is to say from 16 June to 3 September, there will be for the first time a shuttle service which will help pilgrims travel from their hotels and motels along Ste Anne Boulevard to the Shrine in safety. The shuttle will run from 8:00 a.m. until 21:15 (9:15 p.m.) daily. This service is offered free of charge by the Shrine in collaboration with Développement Côte-de-Beaupré. First Nations Pilgrimage

The weekend of June 23-24, the Shrine welcomes the Pilgrimage of the First Nations Peoples. Saturday, at 19h30 (7:30 p.m.), a bilingual Mass followed by the Candle Light Procession at 20h45 (8:45 p.m.) will be celebrated. Sunday, June 24, at 11h00 (11:00 a.m.) will be the celebration of the Solemn High Mass. Both of these celebrations will be presided by Fr. Michael Brehl, C.Ss.R., the Superior General of the Redemptorists. On this occasion, the dance troupe Huronne-Wendat Sandowka will perform the Purification Ritual and the Corn Dance as part of the celebration.

 

The Feast of Sainte Anne to Be Celebrated with Marc Cardinal Ouellet

Marc Cardinal Ouellet celebrated his 50th anniversary of ordination on May 25, and the Archdiocese of Quebec wishes to celebrate with him. Gérald Cyprien Cardinal Lacroix, archbishop of Quebec, invited his predecessor to preside at the Mass on the feast of Sainte Anne at the basilica of the Shrine, and he accepted. Cardinal Lacroix will con celebrate this liturgy at the solemn high Mass at 10:30 on the feast day.

 

Two Preachers Invited for the Novena

Two preachers are happy to accompany the pilgrims for the novena of prayer to Grandmother of Jesus, Good Sainte Anne. These celebrations will be in French and English on the chosen theme, “Do not quench the Spirit.” (I Thes 5, 19)

 

The French novena will be preached by Archbishop Valery Vienneau, of the archdiocese of Moncton, NB. He taught for nine years in the public schools of his natal parish before his studies in theology at the College of the Dominicans in Ottawa, where he obtained with a Bachelors in Theology in 1980, and a Masters in Theology in 1987.

 

The English novena will be preached by Fr. Ray Earle. After his ordination in May, 1986, he worked in several parishes, and as rector of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, St. John’s, NL. At the moment, he is pastor of St. Michael (Bell Island) and of Holy Rosary parish (Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, NL) This will be the third time that Fr. Earle comes to preach a novena.
